STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University’s 2017 enrollment is on pace to support student success, improve the first-year experience and increase applied-learning and research opportunities. Based on the 12th day of class report, 13,011 students are enrolled for the fall semester compared with 13,063 a year ago.<\/p>\n
“This year’s essentially flat enrollment follows a steep growth trend of 5 to 8 percent annually for the past several years—still up more than 30 percent from 2012,” said Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio. “It is the result of a conscious decision to employ measures designed to slow enrollment growth, giving us the opportunity to ensure we have the faculty, staff and facilities in place to meet the needs of our students and ensure their success.”<\/p>\n
Enrollment for graduate degree programs is up 8.65 percent—from 1,769 to 1,922—a nod to Tarleton’s commitment to learning opportunities outside the classroom and excellence in teaching.<\/p>\n
While fall 2017 enrollment of black and Hispanic students remains about the same, the number of Asian students is up almost 22 percent, and those of two or more races is up almost 7 percent.<\/p>\n
Enrollment at Tarleton-Fort Worth is up a little more than 5 percent—1,938 students—with a 29 percent growth in black students and a 23 percent increase in Asian students. The number of Hispanic students remains about the same. Reports for Tarleton-Waco and Tarleton-Midlothian show fall 2017 enrollment numbers are about the same as last year while the number of students taking classes online as part of the university’s Global Campus is up 11 percent.<\/p>\n
Of the more than 5,000 students taking online classes, 2,000 take all their classes online—a 6 percent increase from 2016.<\/p>\n
