The Tarleton Wind Ensemble Presents<\/p>\n

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—The Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium at Tarleton State University is the venue of an exciting debut with a mission.<\/p>\n

Dr. Gary Westbrook makes his first appearance as director of Tarleton’s Wind Ensemble on Monday, Oct. 9, in Land, Sea and Air<\/em>, a concert to benefit victims of Hurricane Harvey.<\/p>\n

Tickets are free for the 7:30 p.m. concert; however, donations of any amount are appreciated. All proceeds go to the Greater Houston United Way as part of Tarleton’s annual Pass the Hat<\/em> campaign.<\/p>\n

“This concert has something for every concertgoer,” Westbrook said. “There are lyric melodies, fascinating storylines that tie into the music, catchy tunes that will encourage you to tap your toe, music that stretches the ear and a traditional military march.”<\/p>\n

Opening the concert is Scootin’ on Hardrock<\/em> by David R. Holsinger, which represents the main street of Shady Grove Township, Texas—close to the railroad line between Dallas and Fort Worth. Next, the band presents an Irish Reel in Percy Grainger’s Molly on the Shore<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Continuing the theme, the ensemble will present Equus<\/em> by Eric Whitacre, followed by recently written StarCatchers<\/em> by Nathan Daughtrey, inspired by the book series “Peter and the Starcatchers.”<\/p>\n

Savannah River Holiday<\/em> by Ron Nelson is next on the program followed by Francis Macbeth’s Of Sailors and Whales<\/em>. The Strategic Air Command March<\/em> by Clifton Williams wraps it all up.<\/p>\n

Though taking the baton for the first time as director of the Wind Ensemble, Westbrook is no stranger to Tarleton.<\/p>\n

Director of athletic bands and associate director of bands since 2009, he has been guest conductor of the Tarleton Wind Ensemble on several occasions, most notably in May 2014 at Carnegie Hall.<\/p>\n
