STEPHENVILLE, Texas—There’ll be lots to do and lots of purple at Tarleton State University’s 2017 Homecoming set Oct. 22 through 28, part of its ongoing centennial celebration as founding member of The Texas A&M University System.<\/p>\n

This year’s theme, “Sharing Our Past, Celebrating Our Future,” is a nod to Tarleton’s rich history and a look forward to becoming the premier student-student focused university in Texas and beyond.<\/p>\n

A Purple Out Picnic, yell contest, parade, tailgating event, bonfire and the week’s highlight—the football game between Tarleton and Western Oregon—are among festivities planned as Tarleton gears up to welcome alumni and families back to campus.<\/p>\n

“It’s a special occasion every year,” said Alumni Engagement Director Jessica Evans. “We are always excited to welcome alumni and their families back home to Tarleton, and look forward to connecting and reconnecting with everyone.”<\/p>\n

Events start Saturday, Oct. 21, with a 5K memorial run, followed by Sunday’s lighting of the smokestack—Ignite the Night—featuring a barbecue cook-off and live music.<\/p>\n

<\/em><\/strong>5 p.m. – Memorial Homecoming 5K, City Park<\/p>\n

Sunday, Oct. 22
<\/em><\/strong>3 p.m. – Ignite the Night smokestack lighting, including live music and barbecue cook-off<\/p>\n

Monday, Oct. 23
<\/em><\/strong>All day – Homecoming King and Queen elections via TexanSync
Noon – Faculty\/Staff Alumni Luncheon, Thompson Student Center ballrooms
5:30 p.m. – Launching of the Ducks, Nursing Reflection Pool
6:30 p.m. – Silver Bugle Hunt, Trogdon House<\/p>\n

Tuesday, Oct. 24
<\/em><\/strong>All day – Homecoming King and Queen elections continue via TexanSync
5 p.m. – Purple Out Picnic, Dining Hall patio
7 p.m. – TexAnns vs. Angelo State in women’s volleyball, Wisdom Gym<\/p>\n

Wednesday, Oct. 25
<\/em><\/strong>All Day – Homecoming King and Queen elections continue via TexanSync
9 p.m. – Yell Contest, Snake Dance and Beat the Drum, Wisdom Gym<\/p>\n

Thursday, Oct. 26

Saturday, Oct. 28
<\/em><\/strong>8 a.m. – Alumni Open House, registration and kids’ carnival; College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Homecoming Alumni Breakfast, Tarleton Agricultural Mechanics Building at the College Farm
10 a.m. – Homecoming Parade, from baseball\/softball fields through campus via Washington and McIlhaney streets
11 a.m. – Student Life Reunion Hall, Thompson Student Center ballrooms
Noon – Tarleton Cheer 70th<\/sup> Anniversary Luncheon, Wisdom Gym
2 p.m. – Texan Alley Tailgate; Alumni Association Tailgate, Texan Stars Alumni tailgate, all at Texan Alley
6 p.m. – Football Game, Texans vs. Western Oregon, Memorial Stadium.<\/p>\n

Outreach locations also get in the spirit of Homecoming with their own events.<\/p>\n

Tarleton’s Fort Worth location hosts its own Purple Out Picnic on Tuesday, Oct. 24, and serves up Purple Pancakes on Thursday, Oct. 26. Both events run from 5 to 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

The university’s Waco center on the campus of McLennan Community College hosts Homecoming Hoedown from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, and Sno-comes for Homecoming from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26.<\/p>\n
