Guest Performer Joins Tarleton Percussion Ensemble<\/p>\n

Friday, November 10, 2017<\/p>\n

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—They’ll move to the beat of a different drummer when Stockton Helbing joins Tarleton State University’s Percussion Ensemble for a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, in the auditorium of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.<\/p>\n

Helbing is drummer for the Doc Severinsen Big Band.<\/p>\n

“The students have been working diligently all semester to prepare this difficult repertoire, and we look forward to sharing it with an audience,” said Percussion Ensemble Director Dr. Benjamin Charles.<\/p>\n

Stockton will perform Bob Becker’s Palta<\/em>, a work featuring North Indian idioms applied to drum set.<\/p>\n

Also featured will be Tarleton junior Darshan Jhaveri, performing xylophone legend George Hamilton Green’s Valse Brillante<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Other works on the program include David Maslanka’s epic Crown of Thorns<\/em>, Owen Clayton Condon’s Fractalia<\/em>, and the first work ever written for percussion ensemble, Amadeo Roldán’s Ritmica No. 5<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Tarleton Steel Band performs Paul Simon’s 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover<\/em>, featuring new faculty member Dr. Andrew Stonerock.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $5 or free with a Tarleton ID. The fine arts center box office opens prior to the concert at 6:30 p.m. Seating is general admission.<\/p>\n
