Spreading Holiday Cheer<\/p>\n

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University’s Department of Psychological Sciences is helping holiday wishes come true for children at the Sherwood & Myrtie Foster’s Home in Stephenville.<\/p>\n

It started when senior Kristen Bowman contacted the home to get a list of the children and their wishes to share with Psychology Club members. By the time it was all said and done, faculty and staff members of the Department of Psychological Sciences, Department of Mathematics, the Student Health Center and the College of Education stepped up to provide gifts for children ages 2 to 16.<\/p>\n

Some children asked for clothes or bedding. Others wanted books or toys.<\/p>\n

“The funniest request of all came from a 5-year-old who made it clear she did not want ‘naked Barbie dolls,’” Kristen said. “Regardless of their wish or the gift received, the gratitude of each child was more than obvious.”<\/p>\n

“When it comes to me and gifts, I am happy and thankful!” exclaimed an 11-year-old.<\/p>\n

A 15-year-old boy, with his heart set on becoming a professional chef, asked for anything cooking related. His preferences ranged from cookbooks and food magazines to a George Foreman grill and everything in between. Requests from a 10-year-old girl reflected her love for painting, music and writing.<\/p>\n

“Service is such an important part of being a Tarleton Texan,” Kristen explained, “and those who participated in this opportunity to bring smiles to the faces of these children and a warmth to their hearts enjoyed every moment of reaching out to help others. Seeing the various university departments pull together to make Christmas merrier at the Foster’s Home was a huge testament to the value Tarleton puts on service.<\/p>\n

“These children will have a better holiday because of the generosity that Tarleton encourages.”<\/p>\n
