STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University faculty join forces with guest artists Saturday, Feb. 3, for a full day of workshops as part of the annual Brass and Percussion Day.<\/p>\n
An all-star concert featuring guest clinicians and Tarleton faculty rounds out the day at 5 p.m. in the auditorium of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.<\/p>\n
Hosted by the Department of Fine Arts and the university’s bands, the event features master classes, faculty showcases and opportunities for young musicians to work with professionals in a small-group environment.<\/p>\n
Guest artists are Drs. Ryan Gardner, associate professor of trumpet, and Dr. Paul Compton and wife Dr. Lanette Compton, associate professors of trombone, all at Oklahoma State University; Dr. Matt Jacklin, director of percussion studies at Olivet Nazarene University; and Kathryn Burns, assistant band director at Marcus Whitman High School in Rushville, N.Y.<\/p>\n
“Brass and Percussion Day is a great event for our students and the community,” said Dr. Brian Walker, assistant professor of trumpet at Tarleton. “To have a high-caliber group of musicians from top-notch collegiate music programs on our campus is a wonderful opportunity. Tarleton students will get a chance to learn from each of the clinicians and benefit from their professional experience.”<\/p>\n
Registration opens at 8 a.m. Day passes are $20 and include admission to the evening concert. Tickets for the concert only are $10 and can be purchased at the box office beginning at 4 p.m. on event day.<\/p>\n
