STEPHENVILLE, Texas — As part of Tarleton State University’s annual Giving Day, the school’s Centennial Committee this morning presented a $1,200 donation toward the Earl Rudder Scholarship to benefit kinesiology students.<\/p>\n

Tarleton marked its 100th<\/sup> anniversary as the founding member of The Texas A&M University System in 2017 with a yearlong slate of celebrations.<\/p>\n

Chairman Darrell Brown, Donna Savage and other committee members made the presentation to Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio at Wisdom Gym on the Stephenville campus. Department of Kinesiology members and students attended.<\/p>\n

The scholarship honors alumnus Maj. Gen. James Earl Rudder, who was a teacher, football coach and athletic director at Tarleton before World War II. After distinguished service during the war, he served as president of Texas A&M University and chancellor of the A&M System.<\/p>\n

“Following the ‘Rudder Way’ of living, we want to help students who exemplify never giving up no matter the odds,” Brown said of the donation and the committee’s three previous scholarships. “We also want to nurture students who are extraordinary examples of serving and giving back, inspiring others to exceptional achievements.”<\/p>\n

Tarleton’s annual Giving Day challenges supporters, alumni and parents to pay it forward to the university’s students through donations to scholarships, programs and activities. Gifts can be made online at http:\/\/givingday.tarleton.edu<\/a> until midnight today.<\/p>\n
