Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas by learning the basics of beekeeping.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Graham, a 17-year beekeeping veteran will present the class, Fundamentals for Beginners Beekeeping. Admission is free and reservations are not required.<\/p>\n<p>Depictions of humans collecting honey from wild bees date to 10,000 years ago. It wasn&#8217;t until the 18th century that European understanding of the colonies and biology of bees allowed the construction of the moveable comb hive so that honey could be harvested without destroying the entire colony.<\/p>\n<p>Graham will explain proper equipment, including the Langsroth hive, which allows the beekeeper to effectively manage the bees, as well as safety protocols, bee behavior and Colony Collapse Disorder.<\/p>\n<p>The W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas, a Tarleton museum and research facility located in the historic ghost town of Thurber, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
