Continually learning and bettering yourself is something you should do.”

In 2017 Rollins apprehended an armed carjacker. That same year, he talked down an individual threatening to jump from a bridge.

“He is a shining example of excellence in the Fort Worth Police Department, going above and beyond the call of duty to keep Fort Worth safe,” said the city’s release announcing his recent honor.

After graduating from high school, Rollins joined the U.S. Army and served in a military police unit. Once his hitch was up, he moved into civilian law enforcement.

“I was getting out of the military but I still wanted the camaraderie of a paramilitary-type organization,” he said, “I just wanted to be home more. It felt like a natural fit.”

Since he is always on call and not on a traditional work schedule, he expects most of his coursework will be done online through Tarleton’s Global Campus.

“I know some guys who have gone here before. They enjoyed it and spoke highly of it. Plus, it’s local.”

Rollins already holds an associate’s degree, a master peace officer’s license and is a certified mental health police officer. He anticipates graduating in about 18 months.

Tarleton, founding member of The Texas A&M University System, provides a student-focused, value-driven educational experience, marked by academic innovation and a dedication to transform today’s scholars into tomorrow’s leaders. Offering degree programs in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Midlothian and online to more than 13,000 students, Tarleton engages with communities through real-world learning experiences to address societal needs while maintaining its core values of integrity, leadership, tradition, civility, excellence and service.

#

Contact: Phil Riddle, News and Information Specialist
817-484-4415
priddle@tarleton.edu

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — It would be easy for Fort Worth Police Officer of the Year Landon Rollins to rest on the merits of a 15-year career in law enforcement.

[423,425
457
post-28178","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-academics-research","category-campus-community","tag-tarleton-state-fort-worth
["Academics & Research","Campus & Community
Academics & Research","Campus & Community
Tarleton State Fort Worth
Tarleton State Fort Worth
["GET
