Globally Celebrated Cellist to Perform at Tarleton<\/p>\n

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Noted guest artists, faculty recitals, ensemble performances and the annual Choral Masterworks Concert highlight this fall’s musical lineup for Tarleton State University’s Department of Fine Arts.<\/p>\n

Globally celebrated cellist Yuri Anshelevich makes his second appearance at Tarleton in a free, public recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, in the theater of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.<\/p>\n

Strings Attached, an Austin-based ensemble, makes its fall semester appearance at Tarleton Tuesday, Nov. 20, in the Fine Arts theater. The ensemble has shared stages with Ray Wylie Hubbard, Joe Ely, Eliza Gilkyson and Patrice Pike. <\/p>\n

Decorated Tarleton faculty members Drs. Heather Hawk and Leslie Spotz perform Thursday, Oct. 18. Hawk, associate professor of vocal performance at Tarleton, is an internationally recognized soprano. She won first place at the prestigious American Institute of Musical Studies Meistersinger Vocal Competition in Graz, Austria, in 2016, the same year she was named a finalist in the National Association of Teachers Singing Artist Awards competition in Chicago.<\/p>\n

She has often collaborated with Spotz, who garnered recognition as winner of the Award for Outstanding Collegiate Teaching Achievement by the 2,000-member Texas Music Teachers Association. Spotz’s international performing career spans four decades and four continents, including solo performances at Tchaikovsky Hall of Moscow University, South Bank Center of London, Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the famed Academy of Music in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

Also representing the Tarleton music faculty on the fall performance calendar is Director of Jazz Ensembles Andrew Stonerock, who takes the stage Wednesday, Nov. 14.<\/p>\n

Stonerock is a multi-talented musician with proficiency on saxophone, flute, clarinet and oboe. As a classical saxophonist, he has performed with the Colorado Symphony, Fort Collins Symphony, the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, Midland\/Odessa Symphony, Lawton Philharmonic and others. As a jazz saxophonist, he has performed with Boyz II Men, Steve Vai, Natalie Cole, John Fedchock, Marvin Stamm and Nenna Freelon.<\/p>\n

There are two other opportunities to enjoy jazz at Tarleton this semester. The university’s jazz ensemble plays two Thursday nights this fall, Oct. 11 and Nov. 29.<\/p>\n

The wind ensemble is on stage twice, too, Tuesday, Oct. 2, and Monday, Nov. 12. The university chamber ensembles perform Tuesday, Nov. 13, and a percussion concert takes place Sunday, Nov. 19.<\/p>\n

Senior recitals for Tarleton music majors begin with McKenzie Moore on Friday, Nov. 16, followed by Johnathan Standifer on Monday, Nov. 26, and Nathan Mena on Friday, Nov. 30.<\/p>\n

One of the season’s most anticipated musical offerings — the Choral Masterworks Concert featuring Tarleton choirs, the Cross Timbers Civic Choral and the Fort Worth Symphony — is set for Saturday, Dec. 1, followed by the Holiday Collage Concert with vocal and instrumental favorites on Monday, Dec. 3.<\/p>\n

Following is a complete fall 2018 calendar for Tarleton’s Department of Fine Arts musical performances. Performances take place in either the theater or auditorium of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center and most begin at 7:30 p.m. For ticket information, call the Tarleton Box Office at 254-968-9634. Some performances are free.<\/p>\n
