STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University in Fort Worth hosted dozens of librarians from across Texas at the annual Library Instruction Round Table summit as part of a single-day professional development program sponsored by the Texas Library Association.<\/p>\n

The LIRT gathering last month provided a forum for the discussion of library instruction standards, activities, programs, issues and strategies.<\/p>\n

More than 40 librarians representing high schools, community colleges and universities attended the summit at Tarleton in Fort Worth to exchange ideas about best practices and share instructional strategies with their colleagues.<\/p>\n

“We had attendees from Austin, Del Rio, Houston, McAllen, Midland as well as many from around North Texas,” said Joshua Wallace, instruction librarian at Tarleton and LIRT chairman.<\/p>\n

Sessions at the summit covered topics such as “fake news,” high school and college librarian collaboration, and assessment. Lisa Wan, reference and instruction librarian at Tarleton in Fort Worth, presented a session entitled “One-Shot Instruction Success in Teaching APA Writing Style.”<\/p>\n

In addition to presentations about library instruction, attendees had opportunities to learn about Tarleton’s new planned campus currently under construction on Chisholm Trail Parkway and a tour the Texan Hall library. The first building of the new campus opens next fall.<\/p>\n
