{"id":27777,"date":"2018-10-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.tarleton.edu\/news\/tarleton-hosts-1600-ffa-members-for-leadership-events\/"},"modified":"2021-11-12T01:23:05","modified_gmt":"2021-11-12T01:23:05","slug":"tarleton-hosts-1600-ffa-members-for-leadership-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/tarleton-hosts-1600-ffa-members-for-leadership-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Tarleton hosts 1,600 FFA members for leadership events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<br \/>Friday, October 26, 2018<\/p>\n<p>STEPHENVILLE, Texas &mdash;&nbsp;Tarleton&rsquo;s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and Collegiate FFA Chapter are set to welcome approximately 1,600 high school FFA members on Thursday, Nov. 1, as part of the university&rsquo;s annual Invitational Leadership Development Event (LDE).<\/p>\n<p>Organizers expect this year&rsquo;s LDE to be among the largest in the university&rsquo;s history, said Dr. Wayne Atchley, head of Tarleton&rsquo;s Department of Agricultural and Consumer Sciences. Students travel to Stephenville from more than 120 schools across the state to compete in 14 LDE contests.<\/p>\n<p>Teams and individual FFA members use the Tarleton Invitational LDEs as an opportunity to hone their knowledge and skills prior to their respective district competitions, as well as the area and state qualification contests scheduled for late November.<\/p>\n<p>Events at this fall&rsquo;s LDE contest include: Ag Advocacy, Ag Issues Forum, Greenhand Chapter Conducting, Greenhand Creed Speaking, Greenhand Quiz, Greenhand Skills, Job Interview, Public Relations, Radio Broadcasting, Senior Chapter Conducting, Senior Creed Speaking, Senior Quiz, Senior Skills and Spanish Creed Speaking.<\/p>\n<p>Teams begin gathering on the Tarleton campus the morning of the LDE inside the Joe W. Autry Agriculture Building with contests starting at 10 a.m. and several continuing until 8 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Tarleton, founding member of The Texas A&amp;M University System, provides a student-focused, value-driven education&nbsp;marked by academic innovation and a dedication to transform today&rsquo;s scholars into tomorrow&rsquo;s leaders.
