STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Five Tarleton State University students took first-place honors in The Texas A&M University System’s 15th annual Pathways Student Research Symposium at West Texas A&M, and six students earned second and third place awards.<\/p>\n
Hosted annually by a different A&M System university, the symposium is an opportunity for undergraduate, master’s degree and doctoral students to present their research findings — across various academic disciplines — in a poster or oral format.<\/p>\n
Nearly 300 students participated in this year’s event, including an entourage of 31 students representing Tarleton and all seven of its academic colleges. In addition, 17 faculty members attended to serve as judges.<\/p>\n
Winning presentations included: • Preston Ward, Maria Tovar, Casey Sutton and Dinah Dinh-Andrus<\/strong>, first place, Humanities & Social Sciences – “Math vs. Gerrymandering”<\/p>\n • Michael Mudd<\/strong>, second place, Environmental Science – “Experimental Use of Plant-Based Polymers as Effective Removal Agents of Solid and Ionic Contaminants”<\/p>\n • Christian Greene and Dr. Del Nagy<\/strong>, third place, Business & Computer Information Systems – “Systems End of Life: What Happens to the Data?”<\/p>\n • Genell Tantingco<\/strong>, third place, Health Science – “Intermittent Hypoxic Conditioning: Potential Treatment for Ischemic Stroke”<\/p>\n • Lauren Selph and Drs. Donald McGahan, Eunsung Kan and James Muir, <\/strong>first place, Agriculture – “Feeding Better Biochar to Bermuda Grass”<\/p>\n • Taylor Garcia and Drs.
