Social Work Student Receives Scholarship<\/p>\n

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University social work student Fernanda Valadez has received a $500 scholarship as part of the Fourth Annual Youth Pride event hosted by LGBTQ Saves at First Jefferson Universalist Unitarian Church in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n

Twice annually LGBTQ Saves<\/a> gives a scholarship to both a high school and college student who serve within the organization.<\/p>\n

“LGBTQ Saves is a wonderful organization,” said Fernanda, parliamentarian of the Student Social Work Association at Tarleton in Fort Worth. “The board members care about who they serve and their partnership with Tarleton. This group has taught me to see love for what it is, and not who it is.<\/p>\n

“This scholarship will help me continue my studies at Tarleton in the bachelor’s-level social work program<\/a>, and I will treasure my time serving LGBTQ Saves.”<\/p>\n

Members of the Communications Club at Tarleton in Fort Worth, the Fort Worth chapter of Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society<\/a>, the Tarleton Gay Straight Alliance<\/a>, Lambda Theta Eta<\/a> LGBTQ+ service fraternity and Tarleton faculty and staff provided free activities for participants, including food, games and prizes.<\/p>\n

Social work students at Tarleton in Fort Worth<\/a> partner with the host group year-round as part of their service learning as well as volunteer at the event.<\/p>\n
