STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Action continues today for Tarleton State University rodeo athletes at the College National Finals Rodeo<\/a> in Casper, Wyo.<\/p>\n First-round scores and times saw Tarleton’s men capture top-20 results, led by tie down roper Wyatt Williams’ go-round best 8.1-second run, and a 3.6 first-place clocking in steer wrestling by Tyler Muth.<\/p>\n The women’s team was paced in early action by Maddie Dickens’ 14.79 barrel racing time and a 6.6 in goat tying by Rickie Engesser, placing both in the top 20 in their respective events.<\/p>\n All Tarleton’s qualifiers will compete in the second go-round today.<\/p>\n Saddle bronc rider Jake Barnes, who posted a 66.5 ride in the first round, and defending national champion bareback rider Tyler Berghuis, who hopes to build on an opening round 72.5, both ride in tonight’s performance.<\/p>\n Williams and fellow calf roper Haven Meged, who took fifth on the first round, flashing a 9.5, are slotted for today’s slack. Also in early Tuesday slack are team roper Zach Kraus, who joined forces with Hayden Cloward of South Plains College for a third-place 6.7 on their first steer, and Jhett Trenary, who combined with Clarendon College team roper Dylan Jones, for a top 15 finish in Monday action. Trenary and Jones will also rope in Tuesday night’s rodeo performance.<\/p>\n Dickens and Engesser are scheduled for today’s slack, Dickens in barrel racing and Engessder in both breakaway roping and goat tying. Goat tying specialist Lariat Larner, who broke into the top 30 in early competition, and barrel racer Sam Smith are featured in today’s slack, too.
