{"id":27069,"date":"2019-06-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-06-25T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.tarleton.edu\/news\/tarleton-announces-neuroscience-minor\/"},"modified":"2021-11-12T00:56:26","modified_gmt":"2021-11-12T00:56:26","slug":"tarleton-announces-neuroscience-minor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/tarleton-announces-neuroscience-minor\/","title":{"rendered":"Tarleton announces neuroscience minor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, June 25, 2019<\/p>\n<p>STEPHENVILLE, Texas &mdash; Tarleton State University students interested in studying the human brain may now minor in neuroscience, beginning this fall.<\/p>\n<p>Students pursuing the new minor do not need to be psychology majors and should be open to the interdisciplinary nature of the study of neuroscience.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;They will acquire knowledge of the nervous system and the relationship between the brain, learning and behavior,&rdquo; said program director Dr. Amber Bozer, associate professor in the Department of Psychology.<\/p>\n<p>Neuroscience, she said, is an &ldquo;exciting, growing field,&rdquo; adding that the Bureau of Labor and Statistics sees a greater than average growth outlook for jobs in the medical sciences.<\/p>\n<p>Required prerequisites are general psychology (PSYC 2301) and anatomy and physiology 2 (BIOL 2402). Psychological research and behavioral statistics courses also are recommended.<\/p>\n<p>The first student to apply for the new minor is John Carter III.
