Tarleton and Granbury ISD Signing<\/p>\n

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Beginning with the 2020-21 school year, Tarleton State University will guarantee admission to Granbury High School seniors who graduate in the top 25 percent of their class and provide up to $20,000 in scholarships annually.<\/p>\n

The Granbury Independent School District and Tarleton leaders cemented the agreement with a memorandum signed at tonight’s monthly meeting of the ISD’s board of trustees.<\/p>\n

As part of the program, called the Distinguished High School Partnership, Tarleton will waive ACT (American College Test) or SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) requirements and application fees. The university will offer $1,000 scholarships annually to Granbury’s top graduates, and seniors in the top 10 percent will be eligible for a $5,000 scholarship.<\/p>\n

“Our reputation for student focus and big-effect undergraduate research is growing,” said Tarleton President James Hurley. “With that comes our ability to attract high school seniors who want more than classroom knowledge. They want know-how. This collaboration is the next step in strengthening our long-standing partnership with the Granbury ISD and in providing a high-quality university experience to students in our own back yard.”<\/p>\n

Tarleton is developing similar agreements with school districts in the region.<\/p>\n

“Tarleton has a rich tradition of success, and we are grateful for the chance to provide our students with this unique opportunity,” said Dr. Jeremy Glenn, superintendent of the Granbury ISD. “While this partnership will benefit all GISD students, it especially targets first-generation college students by breaking down admissions barriers.”<\/p>\n

More than 200 Granbury students enroll at Tarleton each year. Approximately 20 percent of the district’s staff are Tarleton graduates.<\/p>\n
