{"id":26650,"date":"2019-12-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-12T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.tarleton.edu\/news\/tarleton-kinesiology-professor-elected-to-serve-in-tahperd-post\/"},"modified":"2025-10-07T09:45:30","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T14:45:30","slug":"tarleton-kinesiology-professor-elected-to-serve-in-tahperd-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/tarleton-kinesiology-professor-elected-to-serve-in-tahperd-post\/","title":{"rendered":"Tarleton kinesiology professor elected to serve in TAHPERD post"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<\/p>\n<p>Thursday, Dece,ber 12, 2019<\/p>\n<p>STEPHENVILLE, Texas &mdash;&nbsp;Dr. Kayla Peak, professor of&nbsp;&nbsp;kinesiology at Tarleton State University, has been elected to chair the college administrators section<span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">s&nbsp;<\/span>of the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD).<\/p>\n<p>Peak is a former Faculty Fellow in the University&rsquo;s Center for Instructional Innovation, was honored with The Texas A&amp;M University System Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and earned Tarleton&rsquo;s Jack and Louise Arthur Award in 2011, recognizing excellence in the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, she received the TAHPERD Honor Award in 2019 and was recognized as TAHPERD Administrator of the Year in 2017 and the University Physical Educator of the Year in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>TAHPERD is composed of more than 3,500 professional and student members serving education from early childhood&nbsp;through college and represents interests in government and private agencies, business and the healthcare industry.<span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">.&nbsp;<\/span>The organization was founded in 1923 and is the only association in Texas serving education in health, physical education, recreation and dance.<\/p>\n<p>Tarleton, founding member of The Texas A&amp;M University System, provides a student-focused, value-driven education marked by academic innovation and a dedication to transform today&rsquo;s scholars into tomorrow&rsquo;s leaders.
