STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Beginning with the 2020-21 school year, Tarleton State University will provide annual scholarships and guarantee admission to Palmer High School seniors who graduate in the top 25 percent of their class.<\/p>\n

The Palmer Independent School District and Tarleton leaders finalized the agreement with a memorandum signed at the Jan. 13 meeting of the ISD’s board of trustees.<\/p>\n

As part of the program, called the Distinguished High School Partnership, Tarleton will waive ACT (American College Test) or SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) requirements for students in the top 25 percent of their class and application fees for students who qualify. The university will scholarships of at least $1,000 each year to Palmer’s top graduates.<\/p>\n

“This collaboration aligns with our mission to provide a high-quality experience to students in our own backyard,” said Tarleton President James Hurley. “Our reputation for student focus and big-effect undergraduate research is growing. With that comes our ability to attract high school seniors who will become game changers.”<\/p>\n

Tarleton is developing similar agreements with school districts in the region.<\/p>\n

“It was a fantastic night for the graduates of Palmer High School,” Superintendent Kevin Noack said. “We are constantly looking for ways to benefit our students, and Tarleton has provided them a new opportunity with this partnership. We look forward to the benefits it will provide to both our students and the great Tarleton State University.”<\/p>\n
