STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton men’s rodeo team won the Collegiate Shootout and the San Antonio Ranch Rodeo the weekend of Feb. 9 at the San Antonio Collegiate Rodeo Challenge, a competition between the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s Southern and Southwest Regions.<\/p>\n
Both events were part of the annual San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.<\/p>\n
Four rough stock specialists led the way for Tarleton. Brody Cress posted an 81 to win the saddle bronc riding title. Jake Barnes’ 80 was good for second and Lucas Macza was fourth overall. Bodee Lammers took a fourth-place finish in bareback riding with a score of 79.<\/p>\n
Tarleton’s timed event athletes added to the list of the Collegiate Challenge accomplishments.<\/p>\n
Reigning 2019 College National Finals Rodeo tie-down roping champion Haven Meged captured third in the event and earned the championship all-around cowboy title. He also teamed with partner Paden Bray for first in the long round of team roping.<\/p>\n
Teammate Kyler Dick claimed first in the short go with a 4.1-second run, finishing third place overall in the steer wrestling event.<\/p>\n
Taylor Schmidt stopped the clock at 2.4 seconds for a first-place finish in the long round of the breakaway roping to lead Tarleton’s women in the Challenge.<\/p>\n
The men’s rodeo team added a separate championship to its accomplishments by winning the invitational ranch rodeo. Competing against Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Sul Ross State University, the Tarleton ranch rodeo team won three of the four events and placed second in the fourth event to win.<\/p>\n
Teammates Meged, Bray, Rhett Fanning, Zane Patterson and Brett Stewart led the ranch rodeo team to a prize of new buckles, boots and the 2020 San Antonio Ranch Rodeo Championship trailer.<\/p>\n
