STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Dr. Credence Baker has been named interim dean of Tarleton State University’s College of Graduate Studies, effective March 1. She currently serves as associate dean of the college.<\/p>\n

She follows Dr. Barry Lambert, who returns to the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences as part of the academic leadership team and continues to serve as the associate vice president for research.<\/p>\n

Tarleton’s College of Graduate Studies serves approximately 1,875 graduate students and 438 graduate faculty in 30 different master’s and doctoral degree programs across all academic colleges. COGS has seen substantial growth in the number of graduate students and the number of programs offered over the last five years.<\/p>\n

“Dr. Baker has been instrumental in developing and implementing strategies for growing graduate enrollment,” said Dr. Karen Murray, Tarleton provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. “Her contributions have been extremely valuable. She will continue to serve the graduate program well during this interim period.”<\/p>\n

An associate professor in the College of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Technology, Baker has served in several key leadership roles in her 15 years at Tarleton, including director for the Center for Instructional Innovation and certification officer for the university. She has helped secure more than $3.2 million dollars in funded grants and sponsored projects, authored 22 research publications, and chaired or served as committee member on 15 dissertations and theses.<\/p>\n

As assistant and associate graduate dean for the past five years, Baker has collaborated with college leaders and graduate faculty to develop and promote new and innovative graduate programs, grow graduate grants and scholarship offerings, and identify and market areas for strategic and sustainable growth of graduate enrollment.<\/p>\n

“It is a privilege and pleasure to be asked to serve as interim dean of the College of Graduate Studies,” she said. “Our COGS team cares deeply about supporting graduate students because we know the tremendous sacrifices they are making to invest in a better future. I’m excited about continuing to find ways to provide students with value through their graduate experience.”<\/p>\n
