The weekend helps prepare the State Guard&rsquo;s response to natural disasters.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This event has grown exponentially since 2011,&rdquo; said Col. Wendell Sadler, who also is a professor of kinesiology at Tarleton. &ldquo;The motto of &lsquo;Texans Serving Texas&rsquo; is highlighted significantly for Tarleton IX.&nbsp;&nbsp;The code name for this exercise is Operation Oscar P.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The TXSG will use several Tarleton facilities, including the university&rsquo;s Hunewell Ranch. Guardsmen will hone skills in command, control and communications, land navigation, search and rescue, medical evacuation, incident response, and shelter operations.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We appreciate the continued partnership with the leadership and staff of Tarleton State University, which is once again playing an important role in our training,&rdquo; Sadler said. &ldquo;The citizens of Stephenville have always been hospitable to the military, and we appreciate their support.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Texas State Guard exists to provide mission-ready military forces to assist state and local authorities in times of state emergencies; to conduct homeland security and community service under the umbrella of Defense Support to Civil Authorities; and to augment the Texas Army National Guard and Texas Air National Guard as required.&nbsp;All three branches are administered by the state adjutant general, an appointee of the governor, and fall under the governor&rsquo;s command.<\/p>\n<p>The mission of the Texas Military Forces is to provide the governor and residents with ready and trained forces in support of Texas citizens and state and federal civil\/military authorities at home and abroad.
