STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University’s John Tarleton Leadership Academy and its project Mission Ready TEXAN have been awarded a $215,000 grant by the Texas Pioneer Foundation.<\/p>\n
Mission Ready TEXAN is designed to enhance retention in the Tarleton Corps of Cadets by providing staff and peer-led coaching to improve academic performance and career readiness.<\/p>\n
“Our cadets are enrolled in every college at Tarleton, with more than 30 academic majors represented in the corps,” noted the assistant commandant for academics and career readiness, retired Marine Col. Mary Jo MacGregor. <\/strong>“This three-year grant is a significant investment by Texas Pioneer Foundation in the development of capable, resilient and ethical leaders who will take their well-rounded Tarleton educational experiences and apply them in organizations spanning local, state and national levels.”<\/p>\n The initiative will help prepare the cadets, when they graduate, for employment in private-sector, government and military positions. It also will strengthen relationships between Tarleton and external partners such as the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the Texas State Guard, and Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas.<\/p>\n “Mission Ready TEXAN is an exciting project that will demonstrate measurable outcomes in retention, student success and applied leadership,” MacGregor said. “It will showcase to the Texas Pioneer Foundation as well as the state of Texas that Tarleton’s Corps of Cadets produces leaders who embody the ethos of Texans Know How.”<\/p>\n Texas Pioneer Foundation is a private, independent 501(c)(3) foundation established in 2004 to support innovative educational programs in underserved and disadvantaged areas of Texas.<\/p>\n Tarleton, founding member of The Texas A&M University System, provides a student-focused, value-driven education marked by academic innovation and a dedication to transform today’s scholars into tomorrow’s leaders.
