STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University students will see a decrease in on-campus residential rates for the upcoming academic year thanks to approval this spring by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents to purchase private student housing projects and terminate ground leases.<\/p>\n
Students could save up to $500 per semester depending on their residence hall. The new rates are reflected in fall invoices being distributed this week.<\/p>\n
“This is a huge win for our institution, our students and their parents,” said university President James Hurley. “In the midst of the financial uncertainty created by COVID-19, we want to do everything we can to make a Tarleton degree more affordable.<\/p>\n
“We are extremely grateful to A&M System Chancellor John Sharp and the Board of Regents for their support and commitment to student success.”<\/p>\n
Buying private student housing and terminating ground leases enables Tarleton to lower debt service and, given historically low interest rates, allows the university to pass those savings along to on-campus residential students.<\/p>\n
Tarleton will resume in-person instruction in August while implementing extensive social distancing modifications.<\/p>\n
