STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Changing venues and broadcasting via student media are just a couple of ways Tarleton State University students are proving that “the show must go on.”<\/p>\n
Fall 2020-21 Theatre at Tarleton productions include Caryl Churchill’s Top<\/em> Girls<\/em>, Sept. 22-26, and Yellow Iris<\/em> by Agatha Christie, Nov. 10-14. Top Girls<\/em>, to be directed by Carol Stavish, was originally slated in the last slot of the spring semester but was rescheduled due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n The Churchill work, first presented in 1982, examines the roles available to women in modern society and what it takes for a woman to succeed in business and in life. It also explores the cost of ambition and the influence of politics on feminism.<\/p>\n The Tarleton production will be performed outside on the steps of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center (auditorium area). The Friday, Sept. 25, performance will be live-streamed.<\/p>\n The season finale, Yellow Iris<\/em>, will be directed by Mark Holtorf and presented to a limited number of attendees in keeping with social distancing requirements.<\/p>\n Christie wrote Yellow Iris<\/em> in 1937 as a radio play based on a magazine short story.<\/p>\n A distressed phone call from a mystery woman brings Hercule Poirot to the hotel Jardin des Cygnes, where a man commemorates the four-year anniversary of his wife’s sudden death — a death under suspicious circumstances that Poirot himself witnessed. Everyone present that fateful night is gathered, and now Poirot must find a killer in the midst, before he or she strikes again.<\/p>\n Most of the story is set in a London restaurant and is interspersed with performances by cabaret artists who were supposedly on the bill at the restaurant.<\/p>\n For those unable to attend in person, the play will be broadcast over Tarleton radio station KTRL and the Friday, Nov. 13, presentation will be live-streamed.
