STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Tarleton State University and Weatherford College have agreed to participate in a national prototype to boost educational opportunities for transfer students who graduate from two-year schools.<\/p>\n
As part of its Distinguished College Partnership, Tarleton will provide annual scholarships, $500-$2,000, to Weatherford College transfer students with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Awards will be divided between fall and spring semesters based on enrollment and will be renewable up to three years with satisfactory academic progress.<\/p>\n
The visionary investment aligns with the 122-year dream of Tarleton\u2019s founder to provide a high-quality university education to students who otherwise might not have the chance.<\/p>\n
\u201cJohn Tarleton dreamed of an institution of opportunity \u2014 a comprehensive regional university,\u201d said President James Hurley. \u201cIt\u2019s important that we continue to deepen our historic commitment to educational attainment and affordability. Many of the Weatherford College students who transfer will be the first in their family to earn a bachelor\u2019s degree. They\u2019re forging a path for generations to come.<\/p>\n
Weatherford College serves more than 5,700 students at its campus in Parker County and at learning centers in Granbury, Mineral Wells and Wise County.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a graduate of both Weatherford College and Tarleton State University, today is a very special day for me,\u201d WC President Tod Farmer said. \u201cThis agreement between our two noble institutions will further strengthen our historical ties by providing tens of thousands of dollars in transfer student scholarships in the short run and hundreds of thousands of dollars in student scholarships in the long run.\u201d<\/p>\n
Degree-related pathways make it easy for Weatherford students to transfer to Tarleton, saving dollars and class hours.<\/p>\n
\u201cWeatherford College matters to us,\u201d Dr. Hurley said. \u201cHelping students in our own backyard is the right thing to do. They are destined to be our leaders, and we have a social and economic responsibility to invest in their future.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tarleton is developing similar agreements with other two-year colleges in the region, in concert with the President\u2019s Transfer Guaranteed Award Program. T-GAP assures scholarships ranging from $250 to $1,500 per year for students admitted from two-year colleges. Award amounts are enhanced for students graduating from one of Tarleton\u2019s Distinguished College Partners.<\/p>\n
