These posters feature notable individuals or groups from the Tarleton community posing with their favorite books. The honorees are chosen because they embody one or more of Tarleton&#8217;s Core Values. The posters are displayed in the Library Learning Commons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The American Library Association began producing READ posters in 1980. Designed to encourage reading, these posters feature celebrities posing with books of their choosing. Oscar P waddled all the way from Tennessee to Stephenville, Texas, alongside his visionary friend John Tarleton. Together, they took bold steps through wild landscapes, facing challenges with courage. Student workers often fill critical roles that support the daily functioning at Tarleton Fort Worth, including administrative duties, technical support, library assistance, event coordination and much more. For the student workers themselves, their jobs provide real-world experience which will help serve their future careers and their future employers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TRIO<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Core Value<\/strong>: Excellence and Respect<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federally funded outreach and service programs designed to identify and provide service for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. The Staff Council is the principal means of communication between the staff and the administration of the University.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-public-health-student-association\">Tarleton Greeks<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Core Value<\/strong>: Excellence and Respect<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1984, Fraternities and Sororities have served as fundamental element so Tarleon State University Student Engagement and Success. Tarleton is home to 17 national and local Greek organizations, making the Greek community the largest membership-based community on campus. Greeks contribute largely to the campus while only numbering about 10% of the total student population at Tarleton (Stephenville campus). They actively collaborate with the campus community to serve and educate others, helping to host programs such as the Walk Through Texas History Celebration Virtual Event and a Hygiene Drive during National Public Health Week to collect items for the Purple Pantry. In addition, they helped inform the community on the COVID-19 vaccines. These students actively serve others and are leaders in their community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Risk Management<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Core Values<\/strong>: Excellence &amp; Integrity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Risk Management is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our Tarleton community. Risk Management embodies the core values of excellence and integrity in their work, which is essential when maintaining the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors. They manage the Code Purple alerts to help protect our community in the event of a crisis or emergency. Texan Cheer performs at all of Tarleton\u2019s home football, basketball, and volleyball games, as well as traveling to many away games. They also perform at Tarleton Rally, Midnight Madness, pep rallies, many homecoming activities, and special events. The program incorporates horseback riding to facilitate physical, emotional, and recreational therapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Personnel work with community groups and individuals, provide riding time for veterans and their families, and research the effects of therapeutic riding. It features information about and photos of the school, students, faculty, and organizations.&nbsp;<em>JTAC News<\/em>&nbsp;provide updates about campus events, programs, schedules, and news. It began as a literary journal, The John Tarleton, in 1901 and changed to a weekly news sheet, the Tarletonite, in 1904. Events include Allies program presentations, Anti-bullying resources, NOH8 Awareness Week, Second Chance Prom, Tarleton Pride and Transgender Day of Remembrance. For example, the club sends three teams to compete in the BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Representing various majors, members are committed to service and giving back to the community. Each year, they sponsor a fishing excursion for the local Foster\u2019s Home for Children. First, during Texan Orientations, members guide new students as they learn about university resources, meet academic advisors, and register for fall classes. Second, they introduce students to Tarleton traditions and help them form peer connections during Duck Camps. In 2013, the team placed 3rd out of 36 teams in NASA\u2019s University Student Launch Initiative (USLI). Through the years, the band has grown in talent and size due to the members\u2019 dedication and strong leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sound &amp; The Fury marching band is one of the finest marching ensembles in the state, as well as one of the largest and most spirited campus groups. Open to all students, the band includes wind and percussion musicians and a color guard unit. They were successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By 1964, rodeo memberships exceeded those of any other campus group. That same year, Tarleton joined the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) and members began competing in officially sanctioned rodeo events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tarleton has one of the largest rodeo associations in the nation. The women\u2019s athletic teams later adopted the name TexAnns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Changing the team name prompted the adoption of the Texan Rider, represented by a horse and rider icon, as Tarleton\u2019s mascot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Texan Rider is elected by the student body and embodies the spirit and pride of Tarleton, attends athletic events to boost support, and represents the University at official campus events.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"32-tarleton-plowboys\">Tarleton Plowboys<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Core Value<\/strong>: Tradition<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1925, Tarleton\u2019s athletic teams were officially named Plowboys; they kept that name during the time Tarleton was a junior college. After Tarleton became a 4-year college, the students voted in 1961 to change the teams\u2019 name to Tarleton Texans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Barry B. Thompson, 13th President of Tarleton, and several students revived the Plowboys name in 1983 when they established a new spirit organization and chose to call themselves Plowboys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To show their support for Tarleton, the Plowboys attend most athletic events and official campus events. Dominic Dottavio is the 15th President of Tarleton State University.
