Texan Hall Library and the learning commons are on the 4th floor (Rooms 445 and 450) of the Tarleton State University - Fort Worth campus, located at 6777 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth, TX 76126.

Services & Resources

In the Texan Hall Library, patrons can receive individual library research guidance, schedule one-on-one library help sessions, and find a quieter study area. To supplement Tarleton Libraries’ robust online book and periodical offerings, Texan Hall Library provides non-circulating print materials that have been selected specifically to support students’ needs on the Fort Worth campus. In addition, library materials can be requested for delivery to the Hickman building from Tarleton’s Dick Smith Library on the Stephenville campus.

The learning commons offers moveable tables that can be arranged for large or small groups, an expansive whiteboard and three first-come, first-served study rooms, as well as a podium and projector that can be used to practice presentations. A Writing Lab tutor and an Accounting Lab tutor are available in two of the study rooms during posted days and hours.

In addition, Texan Hall Library and the learning commons provide easy access to computer workstations, a printer, a copier and two scanners.

Library Personnel

Texan Hall Library is staffed by Lisa Wan, Reference and Instruction Librarian and two student workers. Additional library support comes from the Dick Smith Library staff and Tarleton Libraries’ online services.

Collections

Students studying in Texan Hall

Texan Hall Library has three print collections of books:

  1. General Reference,
  2. Medical Laboratory Sciences and
  3. Children’s Literature.

These collections are enhanced by Tarleton Libraries’ e-book offerings which are available through the online catalog. In addition, materials in the Dick Smith Library on Tarleton’s Stephenville campus can be requested and delivered to the Hickman Building, Room 500.

The General Reference collection contains a small number of books covering a wide range of subject areas that include accounting, business, communications, counseling, criminal justice, education, finance, psychology, public administration and social work, as well as general reference books such as APA manuals, dictionaries, thesauri, statistics primers and writing guides. Newspapers such as the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and the Wall Street Journal, along with a variety of magazines are also included.

The Medical Laboratory Sciences collection contains books covering topical areas such as biology, clinical administration, clinical chemistry, cytology, endocrinology, epigenetics, hematology, infectious disease, microbiology, parasitology, pathology, public health, urinalysis and virology. A selection of print journals is also available for in-library use.

The Children’s Literature collection contains books supporting educational reading classes. The collection includes titles that have won various book awards: Coretta Scott King Award, Newberry Medal Award, Pura Belpre Award, Randolph Caldecott Medal Award, Schneider Family Book Award and Theodore Seuss Geisel Award. Also available are books in specific genres such as biographies, children’s poetry, and picture books, as well as books exploring varied topics like cultural and racial understanding, grief, historical events, money management and separation.
