Athletic Training Program CAATE Accreditation

The Accrediting Body

The purpose of the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) is to develop, maintain and promote education standards of quality athletic training programs. Athletic training students at Tarleton State University are eligible to sit for the Board of Education (BOC) examination when they graduate.

Mission

The Master of Science in Athletic Training program will inspire discovery, service and leadership through captivating educational and clinical experiences in the global field of athletic training.

Program Goals & Objectives

  • Students will complete impactful professional development activities in the global healthcare community.
    • All students will complete 5 approved professional development activities in the areas of service and scholarly contributions before graduation.
      • Evaluated through portfolio submission of artifacts and reflection.
    • All students will complete one athletic training study abroad experience before graduation.
      • Evaluated through portfolio submission of artifacts and reflection.
  • Students will critically analyze real-world athletic training situations with diverse patient populations.
    • Students will construct comprehensive, individualized treatment plans based upon clinical evaluation, sound principles of rehabilitation, and treatment goals for two different patient populations.
      • A rubric will be utilized (must score at least 2 out of 3 on all components) to show all students are proficient on clinical integration proficiency skills 4 & 9 for two different patient populations.
    • Students will apply evidence based practice principles to a real-world situation being experienced in clinical education.
      • Evaluated through portfolio submission of artifacts and reflection.
  • Students will demonstrate leadership skills, including collaboration and written and verbal communication skills with a variety of populations.
    • Students will work with a partner to complete a posture and gait assessment on individuals from two different patient populations.
      • Evaluated through student reflection in portfolio and poster presentation.
    • Students will serve in at least one leadership role for a student organization or organized project.
      • Evaluated through portfolio submission of artifacts and reflection.
    • Evaluated through preceptor evaluation of student during clinical education rotations.
  • Students will successfully complete the national Board of Certification (BOC) exam.
    • Each cohort will have at minimum a 70% pass rate on practice exams in ATRN 5361.
    • Each cohort will have at minimum a 70% pass rate on first time BOC exam attempts.

BOC Exams

Students are eligible for the Board of Certification exam once they have started their final semester of the MSAT program. As student cohorts graduate from Tarleton's MSAT program, the aggregate data for BOC exam pass rates, graduation rates, and employment rates will be shown below:

Employment Rate

Graduate employment/placement rate: Percentage of students within 6-months of graduation that have obtained positions in the following categories: employed as an athletic trainer, employed as other, and not employed.

Employment rate: Sum of students with a Employed as an Athletic Trainer or Employed as an Athletic Trainer and in a degree or residency program then divided by the total number of students in the cohort (excluding students with a Not Employed, due to military service and Deceased).
