{"id":4633,"date":"2025-04-27T07:31:49","date_gmt":"2025-04-27T07:31:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev-tarleton-hr.pantheonsite.io\/?page_id=4633&#038;preview_id=4633"},"modified":"2026-03-09T12:46:44","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T12:46:44","slug":"masters-degree-educational-assistance-eligibility-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/human-resources\/employees\/benefits-information\/tarleton-family-education-benefit-program\/masters-degree-educational-assistance-eligibility-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"Master\u2019s Degree Educational Assistance Eligibility Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Master&#8217;s Degree Educational Assistance Eligibility Guidelines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By encouraging the professional and personal development of Tarleton State employees, this master&#8217;s degree program is designed to invest in and assist employees further their knowledge, skills, and job effectiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow advgb-dyn-f2a6aa86\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Eligibility: Full-time, budgeted employees at Tarleton State as qualified below. This program is applicable to the pursuit of a first master&#8217;s degree only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Employees<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>100% of eligible tuition and fees will be paid on enrollment in a Master&#8217;s Degree at Tarleton State University.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fees associated with admission applications, insurance, memberships, travel, parking, intercollegiate athletic fee, housing, meal plan, textbooks, school supplies, and transportation are not included in this benefit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Employee must:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be in a full-time position for at least 12 months prior to the start of the degree program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have satisfactory performance evaluation ratings for both the current and previous review cycle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must not be on a performance improvement plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Initial application process requires a professional growth plan.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How does completing the master\u2019s degree relate to your current role at Tarleton State or your intended career path at Tarleton?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How will the additional education improve your effectiveness in your current role or prepare you for a future role?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To receive the benefit, the employee must be admitted to a master\u2019s degree program at Tarleton State, be in good academic standing, and enroll in courses which are part of the degree program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A benefit application must be submitted before the application deadline for each semester to be covered. A new submission is required each semester.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tuition and Enrollment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tuition and enrollment-related fees paid at the time of enrollment \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The University will pay for costs for first time attempt of classes only.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A passing grade is considered to be earned if the employee receives graduate degree credit for the course, with an A, B, or C grade.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Courses that are retaken are not eligible for the waiver.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Benefit will cease if the employee is no longer making satisfactory academic progress toward a degree.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maximum eligibility\/benefit of 6 hours per semester and 18 hours per year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Courses or auxiliary activities outside of the degree plan will not be covered or paid by this benefit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Course attendance and assignment work must not interfere with work obligations, job performance, or attendance.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For any courses offered during regularly scheduled work hours, employee must make up those hours and\/or use Vacation Leave if eligible, unless the employee&#8217;s supervisor approves Education Release Time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tuition and fee waivers in excess of IRS limits, currently $5,250 per calendar year, will be considered taxable income and added to the employee\u2019s taxable wages.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Approvals <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Must be approved by Dean\/AVP and VP of the employee\u2019s division to verify that the degree relates to the employee&#8217;s current role or intended career path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"information\">Applications must be submitted by end of business on closing date for each semester.
