{"id":860,"date":"2022-06-02T20:21:44","date_gmt":"2022-06-02T20:21:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.tarleton.edu\/honors\/?page_id=860"},"modified":"2025-05-12T14:07:15","modified_gmt":"2025-05-12T14:07:15","slug":"presidential-honors-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/honors\/presidential-honors-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Presidential Honors Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Presidential Honors Program<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Admission Criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Incoming Honors students are considered based on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Class rank (generally top 10 percent)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ACT\/SAT (generally a minimum ACT of 27 and new SAT of 1260)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quality of essays<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extracurricular activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Service to school and community<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Three references<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On-campus interview (finalists only)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On a space available basis, returning students and transfer students with up to a maximum of one year of college credit may also be considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Expectations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Presidential Honors Scholars must maintain at least a 3.4 cumulative Tarleton GPA. They must complete a minimum of 12 hours of academic courses every semester while making significant progress toward their chosen degree. Presidential Honors Scholars complete Honors courses, Honors Seminars, and an Honors Thesis. Presidential Honors Scholars are also expected to provide leadership and service to the University and the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PHP Curriculum:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At least 18 hours of honors credits (through honors core courses and honors contracts)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two semesters of HNRS 1185 &#8211; Freshman Honors Seminar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two semesters of HNRS 2185 &#8211; Sophomore Honors Seminar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HNRS 3385 &#8211; Junior Honors Seminar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Successfully complete and defend an Honors Thesis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-advgb-button alignfull is-style-squared-outline\"><a class=\"wp-block-advgb-button_link advgbbtn-c26a4c86-d0e3-427e-9055-ea27cfa66ee0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/honors\/honors-thesis\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span><strong>Honors Thesis<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scholarships<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Honors College will admit an incoming class of approximately 20 Presidential Honors Scholars each academic year. All Presidential Honors Scholars receive a scholarship from the Honors College.&nbsp; Amounts will vary based on availability of funds and student\u2019s need, but our goal is to get students to the $10,000 award cap.
