Apply for Graduation

Step 1: Apply

All potential graduates (undergraduate and graduate) must complete the online graduation application through self-service in myGateway. Please review the important deadlines below in regards to participating in graduation commencement ceremonies.

Application Deadlines

Graduation Semester Ceremony Participation Deadline Degree Conferral Only1 Deadline
Fall 2020 June 15 - August 15 June 15 - December 1
Spring 2021 September 15 - November 15 September 15 - May 1
Summer 2021 February 15 - April 15 February 15 - August 1

1Degree Conferral Only means that you will not be able to walk across the stage at the commencement ceremony.

Only candidates who apply by the "Ceremony Participation" deadline will be able to "walk"/participate in the graduation commencement ceremony. Ceremony participation and graduation are two separate things, however, they are done on the same application. Those students who complete the application by the ceremony participation deadline will be considered as eligible to "walk" at the ceremony.

Step 2: Meet Degree Requirements

All students must meet both university and their major/ minor(s) requirements in order to graduate and receive their diploma. These degree requirements can be found in myGateway under Degree Works and the University Catalog. Students with questions or concerns regarding these requirements should consult an advisor.

Step 3: Confirm Receipt of Application

Applicants should receive a confirmation of receipt email in their go.tarleton email account within 3 business days of submitting their application. However, students can also confirm if their application was received by visiting myGateway and selecting Degree Works, then viewing their "Degree Status" where it should say "Pending (apply for graduation)."

Step 4: Receive Graduation Clearance

All undergraduate students will receive a preliminary graduation application status notice emailed to their go.tarleton account within two weeks of applying. This review is preliminary and is not a final, or official, review of your records. The information is subject to change due to failing or incomplete grades, drops, withdrawals, or other changes in your registration/enrollment for the current or subsequent semester(s). If your notification states you are missing degree requirements, contact your advisor as soon as possible to resolve these issues.

Additionally, your graduation application status will be posted in myGateway in the "Notes" section under Degree Works. Two to three weeks after the ceremony participation deadline, all undergraduate students will receive an updated graduation application status notice in their email. This updated status will also be posted in the "Notes" section in Degree Works. Students missing degree requirements will be given a deadline to resolve any issues and should contact their advisor immediately to resolve these issues.

Students can track their graduation application status in the "Notes" section at the bottom of Degree Works. As soon as additional information or paperwork is received and processed by the Registrar's office, these notes will be updated. Graduation application status notes will begin with "Graduation Audit Performed" followed by the student's status.
