Step 5: Commencement Day


All guests including children age 2 and older, must have a ticket to gain entry to the commencement ceremonies. The participating student is responsible for picking up tickets for his/her guests. ONLY students who applied for graduation by the commencement participation deadline will be able to pick up tickets. Wisdom Gym inside the Kinesiology Building is located at the corner of W. Sloan St and N. Rome Ave. on the Tarleton State University Main Campus located in Stephenville, Texas. For detailed directions go to the map.

When to arrive

All graduates should arrive at Wisdom Gym inside the Kinesiology Building one hour prior to their ceremony and report to the small volleyball gym adjacent to the main gym for check in.


There are no rehearsals for commencement. However, all graduates should arrive one hour prior to their ceremony and report to the small volleyball gym for check in. Students will be provided with further instructions at this time and it is important that all graduates arrive on time.

What to bring

Graduates should bring their regalia (cap, gown, and any desired stoles/cords) with them to check in in the small volleyball gym adjacent to Wisdom Gym inside the Kinesiology Building one hour prior to the ceremony. Items such as a cell phone and keys may also be brought, however, cell phones must be turned off prior to the ceremony and all items must be kept on your person as we will not store items for you and you will not be allowed back in the volleyball gym after the ceremony.

What not to bring

Graduates should not bring purses, bags, or other items with them to check in. Items should be left in your vehicle or with a family member for safe keeping. Tarleton State University is not responsible for lost or stolen items. All items left in the gym will be disposed of or taken to the University Lost and Found located in the TSU Police Department.

It is the policy of Tarleton State University to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other applicable laws. If you or your guest(s) will be attending graduation and will need disability related accommodations in order to have access, please contact the Center for Access and Academic Testing (CAAT), at 254.968.9400.

Ceremony Length/Duration

All ceremonies are typically 90 to 120 minutes long. Please plan accordingly.

Where to meet family afterwards

It will be very important to designate a meeting place prior to the ceremony as graduates and guests will be leaving the facility through a variety of exits. Following the ceremony, graduates will exit Wisdom Gym inside the Kinesiology Building on the south side of the building (southwest corner). Guests will be directed through a variety of exits around the perimeter of the building based on where they are seated in Wisdom Gym. Graduates/guests will NOT be allowed back in Wisdom Gym due to preparation for the next ceremony.


Live streaming will be available for the graduation ceremonies. To view the live stream please see the Commencement Media page for instructions. For those who arrive without tickets, an overflow viewing room will be available. Overflow is available on a first come first serve basis, space is very limited.


Flash Photography will be taking pictures at each commencement ceremony. Graduates will be contacted  by Flash Photography to place orders. They will use the contact information graduates provided on the back of their name card (which will be completed prior to the ceremony on graduation day).
