Night at the Opera House

From the 1920s to the 1930s, Thurber's famous Opera House showed silent and black & white films. The Night at the Opera House is a free public program that features films shown during this time period. Films are shown in the W.K. Gordon's recreated Opera House located inside the museum.

"A Night at the Opera" (1934)- Saturday, February 9, 6:30 pm

Bring your Valentine out to the Gordon Center’s free screening of “A Night at the Opera," on Saturday, February 9, at 6:30 pm. Enjoy an evening full of high society, matchmaking, and chaos in this Marx Brothers movie from 1935. Widely hailed as one of the greatest Marx Brothers films, it’s sure to bring laughter and love to your date night. A light snack will be served at intermission.

Preschool Storytime-Every 2nd and 4th Thursday

We’re welcoming children aged 3-5 and their parents to join us for a morning of stories and crafts! Our January 24 book will be “Going on a Bear Hunt,” by Michael Rosen and each child will get to make their own paper teddy bear. Feel free to bring your own teddy bear to join you for storytime!

Special Events: 

Science at the Center: Circuits and Robots!-Sunday, May 12, 2:00 pm

Kids in grades 3-5 are invited to join us for a day of exploration in the world of circuits and robots! We will learn about how circuits work and put that knowledge to use by making our own vibrobots to take home.

This event is free but reservations are required in order to make sure we have enough materials on hand for everyone to make their own vibrobot. Let us know your child plans on joining us by using our online calendar, calling us at 254-968-1886, or emailing us at GordonCenter@tarleton.edu.

Parents are welcome to stay for the program but are not required to do so.
