Night at the Opera House

From the 1920s to the 1930s, Thurber's famous Opera House showed silent and black & white films. The Night at the Opera House is a free public program that features films shown during this time period. Films are shown in the W.K. Gordon's recreated Opera House located inside the museum.

"The Thin Man" (1934)- Saturday, April 13, 6:30 pm

Join us on Saturday, April 13, at 6:30 pm our free screening of the 1934 classic, “The Thin Man,” starring William Powell and Myrna Loy. Based on the novel by Dashiell Hammet, this popular comedic murder mystery is sure to delight.

Preschool Storytime-Every 2nd and 4th Thursday 10:00 am

Bring your favorite little reader out for a morning of stories and crafts! On March 28 we will read "The Legend of the Bluebonnet," by Tomie DePaolo. We will make bluebonnets to take home. While this event is aimed at 3-5 year olds everyone is welcome to join us for story time!

Spring Fling: An Intimate Evening with Tommy Alverson-Saturday, March 30

Join the Gordon Center for an intimate evening with Tommy Alverson and the Western Deluxe band. Enjoy a beautiful Lone Star State evening with a Texas Country music star at this small outdoor concert from 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm on Saturday, March 30. Gordon Society Members will have the chance to meet Tommy Alverson and his band before the concert at a members-only reception at 5:00 pm.

This event is BYOB for guests 21 and over while food trucks will be on hand serving food at an additional cost. There are a limited amount of tickets available for this event. Tickets are $15.00 for Gordon Society members and $25.00 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased on the Gordon Center online Museum Store.

W. K. Gordon Industrial Conference-April 26-27

Join us for Texas’s first industrial history conference! Learn about the history of Texas industries ranging from livestock, banking, grain milling, railroads, airlines, towns, and more. The conference begins with a come and go reception at the W. K. Gordon Center on Friday, April 26. The conference continues on the Tarleton State campus on Saturday, April 27, with three sessions of engaging speakers from across Texas. Check out the entire schedule and speakers here.

Registration is free and open to the public. Meals will be included. Register online by Friday, April 19.  

Science at the Center: Circuits and Robots!-Sunday, May 12, 2:00 PM

Kids in grades 3-5 are invited to join us for a day of exploration in the world of circuits and robots! We will learn about how circuits work and put that knowledge to use by making our own vibrobots to take home.

This event is free but reservations are required in order to make sure we have enough materials on hand for everyone to make their own vibrobot. Let us know your child plans on joining us by using our online calendar, calling us at 254-968-1886, or emailing us at
