Taste the C.U.R.E<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

C<\/strong>ommunity U<\/strong>rban Farming R<\/strong>esources E<\/strong>ducation<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 1899, Tarleton State University traces its roots back to the John Tarleton Agricultural College. Building on this agricultural heritage, we’ve partnered with Opal’s Farm, an urban farm in Fort Worth, to address food insecurity and promote sustainable agriculture in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are excited to announce the return of our Taste the C.U.R.E. (Community Urban Farming Resource Education) FREE community education program! The program focuses on organic and regenerative farming practices, is offered bi-monthly on Saturdays starting in January 2026, and now features farm locations in both Fort Worth and Stephenville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This expanded collaboration allows us to make a positive impact on the food landscape and community resources in Fort Worth and Stephenville, while simultaneously utilizing online instruction to make the program accessible to our Waco and Bryan communities as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Program Structure:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Classroom Component<\/strong> | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Instruction will be provided in a live, virtual format (synchronous).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Agriculture as a Cure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Nutrient-Rich Foods<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Fresh, locally grown produce is often higher in nutrients and vitamins than processed foods. Consuming a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can help prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Reduced Exposure to Harmful Chemicals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Organic farming practices often minimize the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, reducing the risk of exposure to harmful chemicals in food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Improved Mental Health<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Gardening and farming activities can have positive effects on mental health. They can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while promoting feelings of connection to nature and a sense of accomplishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
