Educator Testing Transition. The Texas Educator Certification Examination Program has transitioned to a new vendor, Pearson VUE, effective September 1, 2018 for the TExES exams. Registration details are now available along with many additional helpful links and information thoroughly explaining testing processes and procedures with this new company. Effective Fall 2019, TExES Testing Requirements Prior to Clinical Teaching Policy for Traditional Undergraduate Teacher Education Candidates will change. View the amended prerequisites for the TExES exam.

Interactive Practice Exams

Pearson Testing offers full-length practice exams that include correct answers, explanations for correct answers, and an automatic score summary report for a nominal fee of $10.00. There are only six practice exams available at this time which can be found at this location on their site. More will be coming at a later date and will be posted as they become available.

The following items are available in university bookstores, as well as commercial bookstores like Hastings, Barnes & Noble, Waldenbooks, etc.. Most are also available online through vendors like Amazon.

  • Pearson Preparation Manuals (Study Guides)-- Study guides for each exam can be found on the Pearson TExES website. Go to Prepare on the home page and then scroll down until you find the test you are taking. The study guides give the test framework as well as a set of practice questions.
  • TExES English as a Second Language (ESL) 154 by XAMonline - Reviews the key competencies and skill sets found on the TExES ESL exam. It also includes 125 practice questions and full answer explanations.

  • Texas Women's University -- Offers workshops, $10.00 each, each semester on their campus for test preparation for several of the most common TExES exams. More information concerning dates and registration can be found in the Texas Woman's University website.

Online Resources

  • T-CERT - This resource is free for A&M System schools (Includes Tarleton) and provides several review modules for many of the TExES exams. The components of each module are designed to enhance the preparation you have received from your teacher preparation program. Contact the testing coordinator for access to this resource.
  • Some students have found it helpful to take the online practice TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) and these tests can be found on the TEA website. These practice tests, designed to help prepare public school students for the TAKS tests, track the TEKS, which are the basis for the TExES certification exams.
