Master's Program in Kinesiology

At Tarleton, our kinesiology master’s degree program helps position you for job promotions and leadership roles within the diverse kinesiology and sport industry, including sports medicine, recreational sports and athletics. With a flexible curriculum to meet your career interests and goals, our one-year master’s degree program in kinesiology is designed to help you develop new skills and in-depth knowledge in your chosen field.

Choose from two concentrations offered by the Department of Sport Science in the School of Kinesiology :

  • The Exercise Science concentration focuses on application-based lab experiences for graduate students interested in clinical and other exercise-related fields. An alternative to a master’s degree in sports medicine, the exercise science program offers a mix of face-to-face and online courses.
  • The Sport Administration concentration is a fully online degree program focusing on the behind-the-scenes business, from budgeting and facilities to marketing and game-day operations, of athletic programs at the youth sport, high school, collegiate and professional levels. This program has produced many Texas athletic directors.

We are proud of our tradition of excellence, as well as culture of community and teamwork, as we build fearless champions who represent the best of Team Kinesiology at Tarleton.

What is Kinesiology?

The study of human movement, kinesiology encompasses a wide range of academic sub-disciplines, including sports medicine, athletic training, exercise science, sport management, biomechanics, sport performance, human performance, human ergonomics, recreation, physical education, wellness and more.

A foundation of the kinesiology discipline is the psychomotor domain of learning. At Tarleton, we offer a wide variety of opportunities for our students to learn by doing, including high-impact practices and service-learning projects that are integrated with the program course work. These experiences help support the complete well-being of our graduate students, not only in their career, but also in their lifetime. Texas is experiencing a high demand in workers to fill kinesiology-related jobs, such as athletic trainers. Graduates with master’s degrees in kinesiology have an advantage over job candidates with bachelor’s degrees, qualifying for additional job opportunities particularly in leadership roles such as athletic directors.
