Locations Available

  • 1Admission to the off-campus locations such as Fort Worth, Midlothian, Waco, and Online require a minimum of 30 transferable credit hours, a 2.0 GPA and that a student be TSI complete.
  • 2Only the Professional and Relational Communication concentration is offered at this location.



B.S. in Communication Studies


The Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Studies provides concentrations in Journalism and Broadcasting, Public Relations and Event Management (PREM), and Professional and Relational Communication. Our faculty and staff members are dedicated to the educational and societal development of students in a progressive and relaxed learning atmosphere. Students who major in Communication Studies may choose from a variety of minors and concentrations that complement their career aspirations. There are three different concentration options to choose from in our degree. These concentrations or minors are offered on select campuses. Only the Professional and Relational Communication program is offered at our Fort Worth campus:

Career Opportunities

Many of our students go into Public Relations, Media Relations, Event Management, and many other fields. Our graduates are working in both non-profit and private organizations, newspapers, magazines, as well as for TV and/or radio stations; currently, we have graduates who hold positions such as Director of Public Relations and Marketing at Kelly-Hart Law Firm. 



Students are advises to complete internships, however they are not require. In addition to the rewarding experience and internship offers, students can earn up to six hours of college credit upon completion of an internship position. Our students have completed internships with well-known organizations, such as:

Media Convergence Lab

This state-of-the-art facility enables students to gain hands-on experience in both news gathering and broadcasting. In this unique 'learning lab' environment, the Media Convergence Lab allows students to work together in real-world situations to meet daily deadlines, compile and edit news stories, as well as produce both radio and TV broadcasts on a regular basis.

Podcast Rooms

The O.A. Grant (Humanities) Building is equipped with Podcast Rooms where students can improve presentations by watching their practice sessions through the top-notch technology provide by the “mediascape”. In addition to the Podcast Rooms, the second and third floors of the building have Media Collaboration rooms, designed for students to meet and work on media related group projects. 

Texan News Service

Texan News Service

The Texan News Service(TNS) delivers news to the Cross Timbers region of Texas. TNS is run by students of the Tarleton State University Department of Communications. Students produce both online and print newspapers, as well as television broadcasts using writing, filmography, and photojournalism skills learned in our hands-on courses. Through these mediums, our students update the Tarleton and Cross Timbers communities with the most current information and news.
