COSM Student Research Awards<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
\n

Qualified undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Science and Mathematics wishing to be engaged in intensive, faculty-mentored research are eligible to apply for up to $2,000. Prior to applying, a faculty mentor must first agree to mentor the student and proposed research project. The award is non-transferable to another student or another faculty mentor.  See links below for details.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

For funding beginning Fall 2026, apply by September 4, 2026<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For funding beginning Summer 2027, apply by April 9, 2027<\/strong>. <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Application Process <\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

  1. Student will complete the Project Description and Budget Justification and submit for Faculty Mentor approval.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Faculty mentor will complete the Faculty Recommendation Form and submit the form for Approval.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. It is the student’s responsibility<\/strong> to ensure the Kuali form is fully completed and submitted to COSM before 5:00 PM on the application due date. Early submissions will be accepted and are encouraged to ensure changes, if any, can be made in a timely fashion.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    The student must complete and submit a Kuali application form (the faculty mentor may NOT submit it). <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Expectations and Requirements <\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    1. Tarleton Policies and Procedures must be followed when receiving\/spending award funds. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Students must access their funds by working through their faculty mentor and departmental administrative assistant or purchaser. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Original receipts\/invoices are required for reimbursements. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. If students are using funds for traveling to collect data, only fuel receipts will be reimbursed, not mileage. The student must fill the gas tank upon leaving for the trip, then refuel immediately upon returning. It is the refueling receipt that is reimbursable. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. All equipment and unused supplies purchased with awarded funds remain the property of Tarleton State University. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    6. If the proposal involves the use of human subjects (including those using surveys, interviews, etc.) or vertebrate animals, approval from the Institutional Review Board\u202f(IRB<\/a>) or Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee\u202f(IACUC<\/a>), respectively, must be obtained. Proposals involving use of recombinant DNA and\/or a biohazard, unless specifically exempted by NIH Guidelines, must be reviewed and approved by the Institutional Biosafety Committee\u202f(IBC<\/a>). If an assistantship is a part of the funds requested, compliance approval must be obtained prior to application deadline.<\/strong> If only supplies are requested and compliance approval is pending, faculty mentor must submit proof of approval prior <\/strong>to release of funds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      Undergraduate Research Award Eligibility<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      Qualified undergraduate students in the College of Science and Mathematics wishing to be engaged in intensive, faculty-mentored research are eligible to apply for up to $2,000.00. Prior to applying, a faculty mentor must first agree to mentor the student and proposed research project. The award is non-transferable to another student or another faculty mentor. Any student who has been funded through a Faculty-Student Research and Creative Activity Internal Grant is not eligible to apply. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      Graduate Student Research Grant Eligibility<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      Graduate students in the College of Science and Mathematics conducting thesis research are eligible to apply for up to $2,000.00 ($1,000.00 for non-thesis). Prior to applying, a faculty mentor (typically the Committee Chair) must agree to mentor the student in the proposed research project. Ideally, the student\u2019s Committee will be established and agree that the proposed research is sound. The award is non-transferable to another student or another faculty mentor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      COSM Summer Research Showcase<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      The annual College of Science and Mathematics Summer Research Showcase highlights the hard work of our faculty and students conducted primarily during the summer term. It provides an opportunity for College and University colleagues to celebrate our research efforts as well as providing students an opportunity to build and hone their communication skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Grant Writing Workshops<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      In collaboration with the Division of Research, Innovation, and Economic Development, COSM regularly offers grant writing workshop to assist faculty with their pursuit of external research funding.  Faculty should monitor their emails and check the links below to see the currently planned workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
