March 13, 2020: COVID-19 Update

From: The Office of the President
Subject: COVID-19 Update, 3/13/2020

Dear Tarleton Family,

I would like to start by expressing my gratitude to each of you for your thoughts, patience, and understanding during this unprecedented occurrence. The fluid nature of day-to-day and often hour-to-hour informational updates and/or changes has made short-term decision making very challenging. However, the overall health and safety of our Tarleton family continue to be the most important factors and concerns of our administrative leaders.

We have worked very closely with state and A&M System administrators to ensure that we are gathering the necessary intel to make informed decisions that are in the best interest of the individuals we serve. While no cases of coronavirus have been identified at any of Tarleton’s campuses, it is advised to take necessary precautions.

All faculty and staff are expected to return to work on Tuesday, March 17, unless you are over 60 years of age, have a chronic disease such as diabetes, heart disease, pulmonary disease, etc., or have a compromised immune system, and your healthcare provider has directed you to request alternatives to your current work location. Please contact Employee Services to discuss options available at Tarleton. You may be approved for temporary alternative work location arrangements in accordance with System Regulation 33.06.01 (Flexible Work Arrangements, Section 2) and Tarleton SAP 33.06.99T0.01 (Alternate Work Schedules for Full-time Staff Employees).

We are asking that faculty and staff use next week, March 17-20, to plan for delivery of online/alternative education options for all students for the remainder of the semester or until the current situation changes.

As scheduled and needed, residence halls are open and dining services will resume at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 15. However, we encourage students to stay in the safest environment possible.

All Tarleton State University activities between now and April 3 are postponed.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will keep you updated. Please, take care of yourself, check the website for updates and read the attached letter from Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp.
