Edwards named to expert panel on public health
Dr. Jennifer T. Edwards has been appointed to the Transformative Educational Models and Pedagogy expert panel that will seek to identify and promote concrete strategies to strengthen education for public health. The expert panel will inform Framing the Future: Education for Public Health 2030, an initiative of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH).
Comm profs to present on mentoring at international conference
Dr. Lora Helvie-Mason, Dr. Christy Tabors, and Dr. Sarah Maben will present "Ascending women: Challenging the one-way career path in higher education" at the ISEB/SOPHE conference in St. Louis, September 30 – October 2.

Edwards publishes research on crisis comm
Congrats to Dr. Jennifer Edwards, Professor, Communication Studies, who just published a chapter titled, "Economic feedback loops: Crisis communication methods and exhibited by the travel and tourism industry during the Covid-19 pandemic," in a new book about pandemic communication.
Experts to present in Seattle
Dr. Del Richey and Dr. Karley Goen, along with co-author Dr. Chris Sawyer, will present at the National Communication Association this fall in Seattle. Their research project is titled, "Distress Tolerance among Novice Speakers during Public Speaking Practice Sessions."
Profs selected for grant cohort
Dr. Cristi Horton and Dr. Sarah Maben have been selected for the Tarleton Summer Research Cohort. As part of the process, they will seek national-level grants to support their research and student participation in the research process.
Ortiz wins dissertation award
Dr. Rosalinda Ortiz was awarded the 2020-21 Dissertation of the Year honor by Ball State University for her research on the Latino student’s transition from dual credit programs to the first year at a 4-year university. At Tarleton, Dr. Ortiz teaches COMM 1315-Public Speaking courses.

Winslow, students help CTFS
Dr. Cessna Winslow’s applied public relations and event planning course practiced their event management skills on Cross Timbers Family Services’ Better Beginnings Brunch event that raises awareness and funds to support its mission to provide hope, help and healing to victims of violent crime in Erath and surrounding counties. Dr. Winslow, assistant professor, was also the featured speaker for the event.
