Literacy Skills Needed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/acrl\/publications\/whitepapers\/presidential\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1989 Presidential Committee on Information Literacy<\/a>,\u00a0<strong>information literacy<\/strong>\u00a0can be defined as the ability to &#8220;recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2013, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/literacy.ala.org\/digital-literacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Library Association Digital Literacy Task Force.<\/a>\u00a0defined\u00a0<strong>digital literacy<\/strong>\u00a0as &#8220;the ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information, requiring both cognitive and technical skills.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Using online libraries and databases to locate and gather appropriate information<\/li><li>Utilize computer networks to locate and store files or data<\/li><li>Evaluating the credibility and suitability of online information sources<\/li><li>Using online search tools for specific academic purposes, including the ability to use search criteria, keywords, and filters<\/li><li>Properly citing and documenting information sources in APA format, including borrowed figures and images<\/li><li>Preparing a presentation of research findings<\/li><li>Utilize technologies to communicate and collaborate with
