As finals and the semester comes to an end, the Tarleton State University Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society finishes off the end of a busy month.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 October 27-29, 10 members traveled down to Hebbronville, Texas to East Foundation\u2019s San Antonio Viejo Ranch. They spent the weekend participating in their annual Deer Capture as part of a comprehensive study on white-tailed deer alongside students from Louisiana State University and A&M Kingsville. The students participated in two days worth of deer captures and were able to experience valuable field work. They were taught how to safely handle deer, assisted in taking samples, recorded data, and were able to participate in capture and release. Thank you East Foundation for allowing our students to participate in this invaluable experience!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

On November 4th, 2023, 6 officers were at Stephenville City Limits to volunteer for the Ducks Unlimited Banquet. Students arrived the day before to help setup and unload equipment. The second day, students helped run the live auction, silent auction, ticket raffle, and helped breakdown. Our officers even got to take home some auction and raffle items. We would like to give a big thank you to Stephenville Ducks Unlimited for the opportunity!<\/p>\n<\/div>

On November 5, 2023, Our members traveled through Texas, Arkansas, and Tennessee to get to Kentucky for the 30th annual conference of The Wildlife Society. Fourteen students from the Department of Wildlife and Natural Resources attended, comprising of eight undergraduate and 6 graduate students, as well as Drs. Adam Mitchell and Heather Mathewson. The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Department of Wildlife and Natural Resources sponsored the conference and students volunteered at the exhibit booth, promoting Tarleton\u2019s graduate and doctorate programs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Students attended research presentations, networked with professionals, volunteered, presented research, and competed in the Wildlife Quiz Bowl competition. Undergraduate researchers Gracie Gold, Ty Cosper, and graduate student Zach Bellows gave oral presentations on their research. Undergraduate researcher Cameron Starnes and graduate students Alex Hoxie, Autumn Patterson, and Ricky Garibay gave poster presentations. Undergraduates Hunter Jacobson, Liliana Navar, Chloe Delahoussaye, Tristian Saxon, and Hannah Atkinson competed in Wildlife Quiz Bowl.
