Tarleton State University was represented by 12 students in Texas Farm Bureau\u2019s (TFB) 2023 Collegiate Discussion Meet, with a Texan taking home one of the top honors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Catherine Hall, who is majoring in agricultural services and development, earned fourth in the contest and a $750 cash prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The state contest, which is hosted by TFB\u2019s Young Farmer & Rancher Advisory Committee, helps college students better understand issues facing all sectors of agriculture\u2014farmers, ranchers, agribusinesses, the food supply chain and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe discussion meet offers college students an opportunity to dive deeper into agricultural issues and network with fellow students,\u201d McKenna Bush, TFB Youth Outreach coordinator, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hall and the other Texans are members of the Collegiate Farm Bureau chapter at Tarleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Collegiate Discussion Meet is a roundtable discussion of agricultural topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the contest, college students discussed right to farm legislation, government-managed lands, creating opportunities for first-generation farmers and ranchers and tax policy in agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis contest helps college students develop problem-solving skills through research and collaborative discussion, as well as learn more about agriculture and Farm Bureau,\u201d Bush said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To participate, contestants had to be between the ages of 18 and 35, must have an interest in agriculture and be pursuing an undergraduate degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
