Welcome to the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences

We enhance global agriculture and natural resources. We develop leaders by delivering innovative experiential learning, conducting relevant research and providing community and global service. We build life-long relationships among faculty, staff and students.

Teaching agricultural sciences has been an integral part of Tarleton from its founding in 1899. For its first 50 years, the school was known as John Tarleton Agricultural College.

Today that tradition is stronger than ever, with our college enrollment exceeding 2,000 students. Tarleton ranks second among Texas programs in the number of students majoring in agriculture, and third nationally among non-land grant universities.

Our graduates are known for high performance and for their know-how. They contribute meaningfully to their professions in animal science, agribusiness, education, wildlife science, ecosystem sciences, environmental sciences and veterinary technology. Many of our graduates go on to veterinary or other professional schools.

The Purple Tractor

The Purple Tractor

The Purple Tractor is a merchandising teaching laboratory at Tarleton State University. It was created for students within the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences to learn how to make and market agricultural products including fresh and frozen meats, vegetables, and nursery plants. All products are produced by Tarleton students in Tarleton classrooms, barns, and fields. Proceeds from sales at The Purple Tractor help recoup the teaching expenses at our Agricultural Center, so that it all goes back to enhance the student experience.
