Tarleton Research Impact Challenge

Sign up for the Tarleton Research Impact Challenge and take your research to the next level! The research impact challenge is designed to showcase your research and raise your individual research profile to the next level. To step up to the challenge, complete one research impact item per day for 7 days. Upon completion, you will be featured in the Center for Educational Excellence newsletter and on this website! The first 25 participants to complete all 7 of the challenge impact items will receive a small congratulatory gift!

Instructions for Registering and Completing the Challenge

Register for the impact challenge.

When you have completed the seven impact items below, place the results in this google form.

  1. Get a professional headshot. A professional photo will help you to generate research profiles, and create a positive first impression while digitally networking. A sign-up sheet for scheduled headshots will be forthcoming. Retain your headshot to use when you generate profiles on various websites.
  2. Claim your ORCID Profile. ORCID protects your unique scholarly identity and helps keep your publication record up to date. Follow these instructions to set up your profile, and retain your ORCID number to submit in the Impact Challenge Completion form.
  3. Create a Google Scholar Profile. Google Scholar showcases your papers and citations. Follow these instructions to set up your profile, and retain your profile link to submit in the Impact Challenge Completion form.
  4. Understand scholarly communication. Review the content listed.
  5. Create a Mendeley account. Mendeley is a powerful tool that can be used to manage references for academic research and store or share research data. To create an account:
    1. Log on to Mendeley.com and click the “Create account” link at the upper right. Follow the prompts to create an account.
    2. Locate an article in the library databases and import your first article into Mendeley
    3. Explore! Here are some helpful tips.
    4. Make a note of the email address associated with your account to submit in the Impact Challenge Completion form.
  6. Learn about pre-prints. Posting preprints establishes intellectual precedence for your ideas, helps you accumulate citations earlier, provides early feedback from colleagues, and helps research in your field move more quickly. Check out shareyourpaper.org, which can help make your paper open access, legally. Review the content located here (the homework on this page is not required). Search for a pre-print from your area of research. Retain the link to the pre-print that you find to submit in the Impact Challenge Completion form.
  7. Use PIVOT to search for external funding opportunities. PIVOT is a software system that allows us to generate searches for external funding sources. To engage with PIVOT:
    1. Create a PIVOT account by following these steps.
    2. Create an individual saved search by following these steps.
    3. Make a note of the email associated with your account to submit in the Impact Challenge Completion form.
