CEE Highlights - Spring 2021

The Center for Educational Excellence (CEE) is pleased to share several upcoming initiatives as we begin the Spring 2021 semester. Additional announcements will be made throughout the semester via email, our social media, and the Faculty Forum newsletter. You may also view the CEE Calendar for ongoing training opportunities and additional events.

Educational Excellence Week

The CEE is hosting Educational Excellence Week April 19-April 23, 2021. Students and faculty can choose to present over Excellence in Teaching, Research, Applied Learning (including Study Abroad/Away), Community Engagement, and Service Learning. A submission announcement for this virtual event will be released soon and submissions will be due on March 15.

Service Learning Day 2021

Classes on Thursday, March 25, 2021, will be replaced with service learning experiences. Faculty and staff will engage students in service learning within the field of study. Due to COVID-19 safety guidelines, experiences should be virtual, contactless, or meet the same distancing requirements of face-to-face instruction. See Tarleton's Roadmap for current requirements.

Faculty Scholar Development Grants

Faculty Scholar Development Grants (formerly Faculty Development Grants) have expanded to include development activities across the spectrum of the faculty role to include: teaching, learning, research, service, and community engagement. Applications will be considered following each of two deadlines (January 31 and March 30) rather than first come, first served.

Faculty-Student Internal Grants

Faculty-Student Research Internal Grants (FSIGs) are available to support the establishment or expansion of research and creative activities programs via seed money to purchase supplies, hire students, or reimburse student presentation expenses. An announcement for Fall 2021 grants is forthcoming and applications will be due in April.

Study Texas Funding

Funding is available to offset students' expenses for course-embedded travel opportunities within Texas for Summer 2021. Interested faculty members should submit a funding application no later than Monday, March 1. Please note that all Study Texas experiences are required to seek Travel Approval and follow all Student Travel processes. Trips may also be considered for ALE credit.

Texan Talks

The CEE is hosting a series of Texan Talks throughout the year as an expansion of the Community of Scholars Colloquium Series previously hosted by the Office of Research and Innovation. Texan Talks will focus on teaching, service, and leadership, in addition to research. Texan Talks will be advertised and shared via live stream to students, faculty, staff, and administration.

Student Scholarly Travel Grants

The application for Student Scholarly Travel Grants will open in the spring. Enrolled undergraduate and graduate students who have been accepted to present can apply for up to $1,000 per student to help defray costs associated with virtually attending professional conferences, exhibits, and performances for the purpose of presenting research and other scholarly activities.

Faculty Learning Community Pilot

The CEE is piloting a new Faculty Learning Community (FLC) initiative this spring. FLCs will be small groups of interdisciplinary faculty who have a common professional interest. The inaugural FLC, led by Dr. Nathalie Jones, will focus on Diversity, Teaching, and Inclusion. Faculty interested in participating should submit an application by January 25

Scholarship of Teaching & Learning

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) program will begin in late spring. Participants will examine and reflect up on teaching and learning in their discipline by conducting a research study that results in a scholarly product suitable for publication and/or presentation. A call for applications will be released mid-semester.

Academic Leadership Development

The Academic Leadership Development pillar of the CEE primarily works to support Department Heads by providing training that promotes growth in the position. Several training opportunities are available in Spring 2021 including the Academic Chairpersons Conference (February 3 - 5). More information will be made available throughout the semester.
