Mission<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Disasters, whether manmade or natural, may occur in any location or at any time. Community disaster preparedness is critical to reducing loss of life and property. Nurses are key to preparedness and rapid response during disasters. Baccalaureate prepared nurses must have the assessment skills necessary to respond to a disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an organization tightly integrated with the surrounding community, the Tarleton State University (TSU) College of Nursing wanted determine its ability to provide rapid response and render quality, acute healthcare to its neighbors during a natural disaster.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

On October 19, 2014 The Tarleton State University College of Nursing hosted a Mass Casualty Simulation exercise with the Stephenville community. In conjunction with 9 Community Partners and 14 TSU Departments, the College of Nursing simulated the events 15 minutes after a tornadic event that impacted the community and TSU campus. Over a 3 hour period, approximately 130 patients were triaged and cared for. This event was a great success as well as a valuable learning experience for our community, TSU partners and TSU students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CCSC will continue to plan, collaborate, and provide community wide events to increase readiness in a disaster event. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
