Columns

Overview

Columns within the template layout

Columns allow what an aside doesn't in a panel: the ability to keep lists, tables, and styled text intact right next to media. That's not their main goal, but it is certainly a strategy used for some text heavy areas that need sprucing up next to media content. The downside is that it does not wrap, it just goes down the column it is in and can look awkward if the textual content is too long.

The first column sits above the second column on small device screens. Since this Content Module Block also allows for multiple panels, the columns are displayed left to right, top to bottom, per each panel on small device screens.

They typically contain options for:

  • multimedia
  • basic content
  • buttons

Content Modules using this Layout Component

A Slideshow doesn't have the same functionality, despite an image on the left column and text on the right column. This is because there is a very strict set of content allowed in either column:

  • no buttons, lists, or tables
  • one link encompasses the entire slide

Similarly, a Testimonial doesn't have the same functionality, despite an image on the left column and text on the right column and vice versa. This is because there is a very strict set of content allowed in either column:

  • no buttons, lists, or tables
  • no links

Example(s)

See the example(s) below for potential solutions for content organization. Please note that not all examples are available as many of these content molecules and components can be flexible. Contact Web Services for creative solutions.

Content does not wrap around the multimedia, giving a two-column layout feel. The Stephenville Better Breathers Club is a product of collaboration between Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville and Tarleton State University.

At Tarleton, a Testimonial panel is strictly the quote of the person speaking. No links are included. You must provide the source of the quote.
