Colonel Jerry K. "Kenny" Weldon II, USAF (Ret.)

Colonel Weldon

Colonel Weldon is the Commandant of the Corps of Cadets and Senior Director of Strategic Studies at Tarleton State University, where he leads the John Tarleton Leadership Academy.

The colonel retired from active duty military service in October 2011, following more than 26 years as an Air Force civil engineer officer. He held multiple command positions and served as a senior policy advisor at the Under Secretary of Defense-level.  During his career, he served at duty locations in Texas, Hawaii, Ohio, Florida, Virginia, the Republic of Korea, and Washington, including two tours at the Pentagon.  His military decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal and Legion of Merit. 

Col Weldon is a graduate of Stephenville High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and received his commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He also earned a Master of Science in Engineering and Environmental Management at the Air Force Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College.

In addition to his work at the university, he is serving in a third term as Mayor for the City of Stephenville. He also serves on several regional and local boards, including the Brazos Region G Water Planning Group; the Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas Board (Executive Board); the Cross Timbers Fellowship of Christian Athletes Board (Chairman); and the Ranger College-Stephenville Campus Board. He is a member of the Turnbow-Higgs American Legion Post 240, Stephenville Optimist Club, Gideons International-Stephenville Camp, the Texas Hereford Association and is a Deacon at First Baptist Church, Stephenville.

He and his wife Carrie, a native of Dalhart, TX have been married for 31 years. They have twins, Kyle and Kayla, both graduates of Texas A&M University with degrees in Animal Science.
